Privacy & confidentiality — CWERC

Notice version 2026-10-04.cwerc.3

Data and purpose

FET uses the subject, incident, dates, location, additional information and originals you provide for intake, coordination, tracking and accountability. Receiving a report does not verify the allegation.

Your reporting options

FET membership is not required. Anonymous reporting does not record your account, name or contact details. Avoid identifying yourself in the narrative, filenames or originals. Account reporting uses confirmed-email authentication to give you access to your own reports.

Access controls

Identity and contact details are encrypted and stored separately. Officers need dedicated permissions; strictly confidential reports require additional clearance. System administrators receive no automatic case or identity access. Sensitive reads and material actions are audited.

Recovery and security

Keep an anonymous recovery code private: anyone with it can access the report. Only its verification digest is stored, and the original code cannot be recovered. Shared devices may reveal reports to other users. Abuse quotas use a pseudonymized network-address value.

Coordinates, maps and supporting links

Incident coordinates are optional. Device location is not requested automatically. Opening the map sends map image requests and device network information to OpenStreetMap. Supporting links and descriptions are retained with the report. Opening a link visits an external service with its own policies and access controls. Avoid identifying information in links when reporting anonymously.

Originals and retention

Original files are encrypted and cannot be overwritten. Authorized officers assigned to a case can download evidence for review or isolated file inspection. Access is recorded and files are not published. New files are quarantined; scan results are recorded by reviewers. There is no automatic scan or transfer to an external scanning service. Records are retained as needed for review, accountability and applicable requirements. Withdrawal does not erase the original or history. Contact FET about retention or your personal-data requests.

Fairness

Report what you know, distinguish uncertainty and identify sources. Avoid unnecessary personal information. FET does not determine guilt from a report. Any future external referral requires authorized human approval.
